9 July 2003Good Morning,
At 5:15 yesterday afternoon--after checking things out for 1/2 hour--I set the course square to 315 degrees, the center of wide rapid shifts--and came in to pick people up. At 5:45 the wind had backed to due west and I had to scramble to yank the course around and still make our 6:00 o'clock start--don't be late. I wound up with a highly pin-favored line for the first few races, a situation I fixed by paying scope out. Fixed, indeed. It was a senior moment. I should have been taking scope in. Fortunately for you racers, Joni Palmer alit out of the blue and gently nudged me to my senses, then hitched a ride and moved the weather mark too. Thank you Joni.
Nevertheless all that, what unfolded was a fantastic night with record-setting attendance. At 6:00 at Thomas Point the wind was blowing 9-10 knots from the southwest. We had it more right and in the 5-8 knot range. There were 19 races. The air was clear. Gorgeous light with colors snapping at you.

Helped that there was a free keg compliments of the SSA Board of Governors that I forgot to tell you about and Kieran sold out of "Ensalada de Atún". Some folks are coming down just for the food never mind racing.
But don't you never mind racing. Next Tuesday, 15 July, it starts at six. Don't be late.
Ciao,
