Tuesday 3 June 2003Good Morning,
About two o'clock this afternoon the wind will freshen from the south and by six o'clock--TESOD start time and don't be late--we'll have 12 knots and veering. That's the good news. The bad news is that it will probably be accompanied by rain. The air temperature will be in the mid to upper sixties. The water is still a chilly sixty degrees.
Rain certainly won't stop the Snipe fleet from attending in numbers. This just in from Hal Whitacre: "The highly anticipated event of the 2003 sailing season is just about upon us... the 2003 15th Snipe Fleet 532 Reunion Regatta..!!...The turnout is looking fantastic, so I'll ask again for any boats that may be available let me know and I can rig them for you if you cant be there... Promise I wont break your mast...." Contact Hal at hal@bruceroberts.com or 410-280-6448.
And wouldn't it be a shame if a bunch of V15's didn't show up and show these Snipe folks how to do it?
Kieran, Feed-your-crew, will have another wonderful surprise special at the snack bar after racing. Then, this evening's password is 'the devil to pay' which used at Davis' will get you a free beer. The password and it's etymology comes from TESOD aficionado Marc Ness: "The whole expression is, 'the devil to pay, and no pitch hot'. This comes from the old practice of grounding ships on a falling tide to pay the seams. The very bottom seam between the keel and the first bottom plank being called the devil seam. This is the last seam exposed by the falling tide, and of course the first seam covered when the tide returns, so there's only a little time to pay that seam. Bad enough, but when you've run out of hot pitch to cover the cotton caulking used to pay the seam, you're risking the wrath of Bligh.
First start's at 6:00 Don't be late.
Ciao,
Alden Bugly
